At HAE Junior, we enjoyed a weekend full of education, sharing patient experiences, as well as games, sports and creative events for both children and adult participants. The program was as rich and intense as in the previous years. The 2024 HAE Junior camp with the theme ‘Our Super Siblings’ was held under the auspices of the First Lady of the Czech Republic, Mrs. Eva Pavlová, from the 12th to the 14th of April, at the Globus Hotel in Prague.
Attendees took part in the usual educational and creative activities – including the popular HAEro Games, as well as expert lectures and group discussions on topics significant for the Czech HAE patients.
The adult participants learned more about the importance of immunity for HAE patients at a lecture by Prof. Jakub Abramson from the Weizmann Institute of Science, or about the situation of the HAE patient community in Central Europe and the activities of HAE International as presented by Michal Rutkowski, the vice president of HAEi. In addition, our community also attended an interactive workshop ‘The HAE Patient's Journey’, which was conducted based on the methodology of the ERN RITA – European Reference Network.
The group discussion with pediatric psychologist Věra Reichlová (Motol University Hospital) also attracted great interest and attendance.
For our juniors, we had prepared sports, educational and creative activities, with a focus on HAE awareness and strengthening of the sibling relationships among HAE children and youth. One of the most popular events was the digital creative workshop, led by instructors from Smart Goal agency while the technical equipment was provided by Počítače dětem, a non-profit project of IT People Foundation.
As part of the 5th HAEro Games, all the steps and activities of the HAE juniors were tracked to spread awareness within #active4HAE challenge, organized by HAE International from April 1 to May 31, 2024. The juniors were then awarded with well-deserved trophies and diplomas for their participation.
And because HAE Junior is celebrating its 5th anniversary this year, on the closing evening we held a modest birthday party with a cake. On this occasion, we presented photos of the greatest achievements of our organization so far as well as the exhibition of pictures/drawings 'Stronger than HAE', which had its opening in 2022, during the Czech EU Presidency.
We would like to thank all the speakers, participants and partners whose contributions allowed us to organize the Family educational camp in 2024. The event was supported by the following partners: Amberplasma, CSL Behring, KalVista, CEZ Foundation, Pharming, Pharvaris, Swixx BioPharma, Association for Plasmapheresis, Takeda Czech Republic and other individual donors.
